Miramar Beach

(updated August 08, 2024)

Near Destin, Florida

The city of Destin, which is where we flew into, is near Miramar Beach. We planned to stay at Miramar Beach, a convenient distance from Destin, only 8.9 miles. Even though they have a zip code of their own and are in different counties, Miramar Beach is often considered a part of Destin.

Beautiful White Sand

In 1538, Spanish explorers founded what is now known as Destin, off the Gulf Coast, in Florida’s panhandle.  In 1835, Captain Leonard Destin, hence the name, started fishing and sailing the waters of Florida. Due to difficulties, he settled in Destin between 1850-1852.

He then went on to pioneer the fishing industry in Destin. Destin went from a small fishing settlement to a beautiful vacation town. According to cityofdestin.com, it is considered the world’s Luckiest Fishing Village. Established as time went on were many beach towns nearby. Miramar beach was one of them.

Miramar Beach

Miramar Beach sits in the panhandle of Florida. It has to be one of the most beautiful beaches I have visited in the United States!

This area is a part of the common terminology, the Emerald Coast. The Emerald Coast spans a 24-mile stretch. The white sand against the turquoise-blue water is breathtaking scenery.

According to wsfa.com, the reason for the green water along the Emerald Coast is a healthy supply of microscopic plankton. The plankton produces chlorophyll which gives off a greenish color when the sun shines upon the water.

Beachside Towers One

We stayed in a condo at Beachside Towers One, and it had everything you would need. It was a short walk to the beach, and we enjoyed tubing and relaxing in the Gulf.

The condo came with a golf cart. We were able to tour around in golf cart style. We used it to hit the grocery store, see the area and go to an outdoor mall with restaurants and live music. There is parking for golf carts everywhere!

I suggest finding a vacation stay that offers a golf cart.

It is worth it!

Stormy Weather

We took some neat pictures of some stormy weather we encountered. We had thunder and lightning with large clouds and downpours. When you aren’t used to storms like this, it can take you by surprise. Thankfully, it only lasted just a few hours.

Plenty To Do...

Besides sitting on the beaches, there is plenty to do in the Miramar Beach area. You can rent a boat or ride on a jet ski. You can go parasailing or go fishing. You can go shopping, or you can go golfing. You can visit a local Farmer’s Market too!

In most hotels or condos, you have a kitchenette. So, you can eat in your vacation home, or you can eat out at a restaurant. You can tour nearby places by golf cart or bike along one of the many paths. There are plenty of photo opportunities here, too!

Check Weather Before You Travel

Due to the average monthly temperatures, I caution you to check the weather before you travel. We visited in late August, and it was muggy and hot. The heat was difficult to bear unless you were in the ocean or pool.  We had 5 minutes sitting still at a traffic light in our golf cart, and that stop was stifling. The https://www.noaa.gov/ shows the hottest months are June-September. In August, it was 90 degrees, but when the air is hot and humid, it is intolerable and can leave it hard to breathe.

I wouldn’t mind living here, despite the summer temperatures. You could stay in during the hot weather and enjoy your time outside when the temperatures drop.

I found the area peaceful and loved how we could drive around safely in a golf cart. The people were friendly, and the surrounding area was clean.

I enjoyed Miramar Beach and the surrounding area and look forward to another trip!
